Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday appealed Union External Affairs Minister SM Krishna to discuss with Angolan government in South Africa where 128 Odia labourers were allegedly being harassed by the authorities of a cement factory. Naveen in his letter also requested Krishna for immediate intervention in the matter and justice for the languishing workers.

According to two labourers of Kendrapada district, who managed to escape from the place, the industry owners were not allowing them to go to homes. Also when the workers demanded their lawful wages and other benefits, the industry authorities threaten with dire consequences, they alleged.

On the other hand state Labour and Employment Minister said all steps were being taken to release these workers. Naveen in his letter said that lawful wages of the workers should be paid along with other workmen benefits. Those who want to return to India should be allowed free passage without harassment, the letter read.
