Sambalpur: With general elections barely a couple of months away, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is already on campaigning mode. Continuing his whirlwind tours to different parts of the State, Patnaik today announced new projects worth Rs 88 crore for Sambalpur during his visit to the district. Besides, Patnaik also inaugurated a bridge over Mahanadi River.

Official sources said the second 1.5-kilometre bridge constructed at a cost of Rs 117.72 crore will connect Sambalpur town with rural peripheries like Chaurapur, Goshala and others.

While attending a conclave of the Biju Yuva Vahini, Patnaik also announced new bridges near Malatijor at a cost of Rs 20 crore and Balibandha at Rs 10 crore. Moreover, Rs 3 crore for infrastructure development of Veer Surendra Sai Stadium was also announced by the CM.

Besides, Patnaik also inaugurated 19 developmental projects worth Rs 100 crores and laid foundation stones of 14 welfare projects worth Rs 338 crores during his Sambalpur visit.

Earlier, BJP leader Jayanarayan Mishra was taken into preventive custody from his residence in Nandapada area ahead of Odisha CM's visit to Sambalpur today. Members of BJP Yuva Manch were also taken into preventive custody for opposing and showing black flags to the chief minister.
