Bhubaneswar: The state government on Tuesday announced distribution of free bicycles among the 10th standard male students belonging to the below poverty line (BPL) families.

A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. "About 1.60 lakh boys of BPL families will get benefit from the new decision," an official said. The decision to give free bicycle to BPL family male students came after huge success of a similar scheme for all the 10th standard girl students irrespective of any category in the state.

Earlier the state government had initiation the provision of free bicycles for all the 10th standard students belonging to scheduled tribe and scheduled caste category. With addition of BPL boys, the number of beneficiaries in the free bicycle scheme increased to 4.5 lakh, the official said.
