Nabarangpur: Congress leader and Nabarangpur MP Pradip Majhi had a close shave today when his car overturned near Parbatipuram in Rayagada district Friday morning. His associate district congress President was injured critically.
The Lok Sabha member accompanied by district president Narayan Patra was returning from Rayagada after attending a wedding ceremony Friday morning. The car lost control at Babli near Parbatipuram and skidded off the road leaving Narayan injured. However, the MP narrowly escaped from the mishap. Critically injured Narayan was admitted to NRI hospital in Vishakhapatnam.
In a separate shocking incident, five persons were killed and over 30 injured seriously when a mini truck carrying 50 to 60 people overturned at Chandahandi near here in the wee hours of Friday, police said.
The injured were admittd to Chandahandi hospital. Three among the deceased have been identified as Jadumani Thakur, Harishankar Nial and Bunda Rout.
According to police at least 60 people of Khaprakhol in Kalahandi district were returning from Bariguda near Chandahandi after attending a marriage ceremony. The truck they travelling in lost control near a culvert and overturned killing five among the passengers on the spot.
Police seized the bodies and are investigating the matter.
