A Class 9 male student has allegedly faced physical and mental harassment at the Adarsha Vidyalaya in Korakara under Raghunathpur police limits of Jagatsinghpur district. The matter came to the fore after an FIR was lodged in this connection, sources said on Friday.

According to the student’s mother, the child had taken an extreme step to end his life and attempted to die by suicide after returning home from school, unable to bear the humiliation, and mental and physical distress. She lodged a complaint at Raghunathpur Police Station, following which cops visited the school and began an investigation.
The mother alleged that the abuse involved the school’s vice-principal, a music teacher, and a grade-4 staff member. The student was allegedly pulled by his shirt collar, forced to kneel down, and made to apologise by holding the feet of the staff member.
When contacted, the student’s mother said, “Last Tuesday (on February 10, 2026), he (the boy) returned from school around 4.00 PM with tears in his eyes. He told me he wouldn't go to the school anymore because they (the school authorities) made him kneel down. He was so distressed that he even threatened to commit suicide and tried to lock himself in his room, but I managed to stop him.”
Meanwhile, the school authorities have denied the allegations, saying it to be baseless. No official response from the police has been received yet regarding the case.
“We have not subjected him (the male student) to any kind of harassment, nor have we said anything offensive to the boy. Claims regarding the application of colour are entirely false. We only explained to him that using such things is inappropriate,” the school vice-principal, Jagyanseni Nayak, expressed while speaking to mediapersons.
“Even though he is a science attendant, he is our staff member, and it was not right for him to behave that way toward the staff, being a Class 9 student. Therefore, we asked him to apologise, and we also spoke with him to help him understand the situation, and this much is the matter,” the school vice-principal stated.
