A Class IV girl student reportedly died amid a suspected diarrhoea outbreak in Odisha’s Rayagada district, triggering concern in the Bissamcuttack area.
More than 30 students of the Nalini Vidya Mandir hostel at Hada Sinkula village under Chatikana panchayat reportedly fell ill after complaining of diarrhoea and vomiting. The affected students were rushed to the Bissamcuttack Community Health Centre late on Thursday night, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
Diarrhoea Spreading Rapidly
The deceased girl has been identified as Lagna Urlaka, daughter of Rajendra Urlaka of Kannadi village under Bhatapur panchayat. One other student was reportedly taken home by her family.
School principal Urmila Satapathy said the child had been admitted to the hospital and had been given saline. “After treatment, doctors said there was no serious complication and discharged her. However, her father later took her home from the hostel,” she said.
Health officials have intensified monitoring at the hostel and said the condition of the other affected students is stable. Medical teams have been deployed to prevent the spread of the illness.
