Clash erupts during religious event in Ganjam, 5 injured

A clash between two groups, reportedly fuelled by long-standing rivalry, erupted at Sahadev Tikarpada under Digapahandi block in Odisha’s Ganjam district, leaving five people injured.

A clash between two groups, reportedly fuelled by long-standing rivalry, erupted at Sahadev Tikarpada under Digapahandi block in Odisha’s Ganjam district, leaving five people injured.

The incident took place near the Raghunath Temple, where a religious 'nama yajna sankirtan' was underway. 

What began as a heated verbal exchange quickly escalated, with members from both sides allegedly attacking each other using sticks and sharp weapons.

Local sources said panic spread among the devotees as the confrontation intensified. 

Villagers rushed the injured to Digapahandi Medical Centre, from where three critically hurt individuals were later referred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for advanced treatment.

On being alerted, K. Nuagaon police reached the village, brought the situation under control and began a probe to determine the exact cause and identify those involved.

Preliminary information suggests that the violence was triggered due to an old dispute between the two groups. 

Police presence has been strengthened in the area to prevent further tensions as the investigation continues.
