Bhubaneswar: The officials of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) today seized 80,000 sticks of cigarettes worth Rs 12 lakh from two passengers at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA).

According to DRI officials, they received inputs that two passengers arriving at Bhubaneswar airport from Malaysia's Kuala Lumpur by Air Asia flight AK 31 were smuggling cigarettes of foreign origin.

Acting on the tip-off, the officials intercepted the two businessmen from Kolkata, upon their arrival at Bhubaneswar airport. During the search, the officials recovered cigarettes of Marlboro brand concealed in their baggage.

During further inquiry, the officials found that the 400 cigarette packets did not contain the prescribed statutory and pictorial warning printed on them.

The two passengers have been detained for questioning and the cigarettes have been seized. Further investigation into the matter is underway, the officials added.
