Cuttack: Orissa High Court on Friday rejected an interim bail plea of Ranjan Das, chief of chit fund firm Swastik India, who has been lodged in Jharpada jail for his alleged link with Aartha Tatwa (AT) group.

The court posted the next hearing of the case to first week of January.

In his plea before the court, Das said he is suffering from cancer and advanced treatment facilities are not available in Odisha. Hence, he should be granted interim bail to enable him to go out of the state to avail such treatment, he submitted.

On December 4, the HC had directed the Acharya Harihar Cancer Research Institute (AHCRI) to undertake medical examination of Das.

Notably, Central investigating agency CBI has mentioned Das’ name in its preliminary chargesheet in AT scam.
