Bhubaneswar: The editor of a leading Bengali daily and senior journalist, Suman Chattopadhyay, who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday for his alleged complicity with the I-Core Group chit fund scam, will be produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court in Bhubaneswar today.

Chattopadhyay, who is also the director of Disha Productions and Media Private Limited (DPMPL) is being brought to Bhubaneswar by a team of Kolkata CBI officials via road.

The CBI is likely to request the court to take Chattopadhyay in remand in order to elicit more information about the involvement of any other influential persons in the case.

It may be noted that apex investigation body started its probe into the affairs of the I-Core Group in 2014 over charges that the firm raised over Rs 3,000 crore from people by offering high returns on investments.

During investigation, the CBI had found that a portion of the company's funds were diverted to the account of DPMPL as well the personal account of Chattopadhyay.

Chattopadhyay's wife Kasturi was grilled in connection with the Saradha Group chit fund case in 2017.
