Bhubaneswar: Union Tourism minister K Chiranjeevi inaugurated the new campus of Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management on Thursday here at Dumduma on the outskirts of the capital city. Initially the centre functioned from a building provided by the State Government at Sishubhawan Square.
 
CM Naveen Patnaik, who was the chief guest in the inaugural function said, "This new institute will certainly help in the growrth of tourism and hospitality and of course in the allied sectors. It will boost employment and tourism in our state."
 
Patnaik stated two Hotel Management institutes have been proposed to be set up, one at Balasore in North Odisha and the other in Khalikote.
 
Among others, Odisha Tourism minister Maheswar Mohanty, Union Minister for Chemicals & Fertilizers, Statistics and Programme Implementation Srikant Jena and Bhubaneswar MP Prasanna Patasani were present.
 
IITTM, Bhubaneswar started its activities in October 1996 when the Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India opened the first regional centre of IITTM at Bhubaneswar.
 
The institute offers fulltime post graduate programmes in Travel and Tourism Management. Apart from Entrepreneurship Development Programmes (EDPs) and Management Development Programmes (MDPs), it also conducts Faculty Development programmes (FDPs) at frequent intervals.
 
Now with the opening of a full-fledged campus, IITTM is expected to begin a new chapter in the quality of Tourism and Travel education in the eastern region.
