Puri: Fishermen under the aegis of Chilika Matsyajibee Sangha staged a mass demonstration today and threatened to launch disobedience stir alleging callousness of the administration.

The association rued that despite repeated requests to the government to resolve the issues faced by the fishermen community; their demands are yet to be fulfilled.

The fishermen alleged that the government is showing negligence in protecting the Chilika Lake and their livelihood.

The Khurda and Ganjam district administrations have already completed the eviction of illegal prawn gheries but the same has not been done in Puri district, the protestors said.

The agitating fishermen also burnt the effigy of Brahmagiri MLA.

President of Chilika Matsyajibee Sangha, Rabindra Kumar Behera said "We demand eviction of the illegal prawn gheries and implementation of the Bharatmala project by the state government & the Centre at the earliest.
