A self-professed admirer of Orissa`s culture, especially relating to the Jagannath cult, Ramendra has published 21 books of children`s stories in English language.
The latest book, `Now or Never`, has been recommended by the Central Board of Secondary Education as a supplementary reader for students of class seven and eight.
Ramendra mainly writes on Lord Jagannath and tales associated with the deity, about Orissa`s rich history and birds and animals found in the state.
One of his stories has found place in the best book for class nine students in Norway while another story has been adapted as `Kamishibai`, the traditional form of storytelling in Japan.
Ramendra had the rare honour of presenting a paper at the 31st International Board on Books for Young People World Congress, 2008 held in Copenhagen, Denmark.
In his paper titled ``Here and Now - An Indian Paradigm``, Ramen drew upon the Jagannath cult and explained how its values and ideals can be skillfully synergized with the modern day concerns.
The multi-ethnic audience was impressesd by the fact that Ramen could dovetall an ancient tradition with contemporary issues to present a paradigm which was fresh and vibrant.
His life devoted to writing for the children, Ramendra, who works for the Rourkela steel plant, was recently invited by the Public School, Denmark to conduct a creative writing workshop for its students
