Child Theft Rumours: Man beaten up by locals in Angul

Angul: Even though the Odisha police has issued an advisory on child-theft suspicion asking people not to take law into their hands, an unidentified man was mercilessly beaten by locals at Lingaraj Munda Basti under Kaliari police station in Angul district suspecting him to be a child lifter on Sunday.

According to reports, while the man was wandering in the village at around 8 pm yesterday, a group of locals caught hold of him and asked his whereabouts. After failing to give satisfactory answer, the villagers thrashed him black and blue.

On getting information, police rushed to the spot and rescued the man from the villagers' clutch. After interrogation, the cops informed that the man is mentally unstable, sources said.

It may be mentioned here that rumours on child lifting gang have been doing rounds on social media for the last two months.
