Bolangir: The Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Patnagarh police station Anadi Matari was suspended by SP K.Siva Subramani today on charges of assaulting a man, whose new born boy was allegedly stolen from the Patnagarh hospital ward on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, the ASI beat up the man in full public glare when he was protesting the delay in tracing his new born child by blocking the Patnagarh main road along with family and members of Lakhe Ghar Ganda Samaj. The video of the whole episode went viral on social media leading to outrage.

Demanding suspension of the ASI, the family members, relatives and some locals continued the protest till the district administration officials assured action against the erring cop.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that the family members also misbehaved with the police official. Further enquiry is underway to find out the details,” said Bolangir SP, adding, “As the CCTV cameras installed in the hospital premises were not functioning, I have asked the CDMO for a detailed report.”  Efforts are on to trace the baby, the SP assured.

The baby boy born to Jayanti Tandi of Telenapalli village was stolen by an unidentified woman, claiming to be a relative of the family, from Patnagarh hospital on Wednesday.
