Child dies after illegal removal of kidney

Cuttack: The death of a child in a private nursing home today due to alleged theft of his kidney has sent shock waves in the city. The owner and staff of the Jagannath Nursing Home have been absconding after the incident came to light. The city police and the staff of the office of the Chief District Medical Officer(CDMO) failed to nab the owner of the nursing home despite conducting raids.

Three- and-half year old Srijeet sustained severe burn injuries on his right hand about a year and half ago. Srijeet and his family hailed from Nehrupalli in eastern Cuttack. He was admitted to the Jagannath Nursing Home at Professor Para three days back for a plastic surgery. The doctors at the nursing home conducted the surgery on Thursday. But the ill-fated child died.

The sensational matter came to light when cut marks were detected on the lower abdomen of the child after his death. Usha Dash, mother of Srijeet said,"The child has been killed and his kidney has been stolen." Questions arose how could the abdomen bear cut marks when the little boy had injuries on his right hand?

The additional district magistrate on receiving the complaints asked the police and the CDMO to conduct an inquiry into the incident. The parents of Srijeet have lodged an FIR at the Chauliaganj police station. The police has launched search operations to nab the persons involved in the gruesome incident.
