Bhubaneswar: Odisha chief secretary Gokul Chandra Pati appeared before the Supreme Court today in the case relating to the porn clips, including the infamous rape videos, doing rounds in the social media.

The apex court had summoned the top bureaucrat to appear on March 20, but he failed to keep the date. Expressing its anguish over it, the court had slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 on the State.

The State government has so far not presented its submissions in the court over the issue. The case came up after the court took suo motu cognizance of a letter sent to it by the Hyderabad-based social organization ‘Prajwala’ and converted it into a petition.

The letter alleged that neither the Centre nor the concerned State governments have taken any step to prevent the spread of such porn videos in the social sites like WhatsApp, Facebook and YouTube.

The court has asked the CBI to investigate into the matter, acting upon which the Central probe agency arrested Bhubaneswar-based builder Subrat Sahoo alias Kalia and his associate Banti in one such case.
