Chain snatchers target police officer’s mother in Bhubaneswar, incident caught on cam
Chain snatchers struck in Odisha’s capital city on Tuesday morning, targeting the mother of a police officer in a brazen daylight robbery under the Chandrasekharpur police limits.
The incident occurred around 9 am when the woman was out on her daily morning walk along her usual route at a VIM Quarter Colony, an area residents considered relatively safe during early hours. According to reports, unidentified miscreants allegedly snatched her gold chain and fled the spot.
CCTV cameras installed in the locality captured visuals of the crime. Police have begun examining the footage and are conducting further investigation based on the video evidence to identify the accused.
The victim said she never expected such an incident to take place in the area. “I never thought that looters would strike here, as it has been my everyday route for the past one year. I have informed the police,” she said.
Her daughter revealed that she had previously fallen victim to a similar snatching incident and has since stopped wearing valuable ornaments outside.
The incident has triggered panic among local residents, many of whom expressed concern over personal safety and questioned the adequacy of security arrangements and police patrolling in the area. Several residents said they are now hesitant to wear gold ornaments in public following the incident.
