Bhubaneswar: The union government has sought the services of the Odisha cadre IAS officer and former Malkangiri District Collector R Vineel Krishna, who recently came to limelight following his abduction by Maoists, official sources said on Thursday.
"The state government has received a letter from the government of India which proposed central deputation for Krishna, a 2005 batch IAS officer," Special Secretary of General Administration Department U N Behera told PTI.
Behera, however, said the state government was yet to take any decision regarding the Centre`s proposal. The former Malkangiri Collector was likely to be appointed as the Private Secretary to Union Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh, sources said.
Krishna, who had been abducted on February 16 and subsequently released after a week on February 24 when the state government fulfilled certain conditions of Maoists, was meanwhile shifted from Malkangiri. He was posted as the Director of Tribal Welfare in the Department of Scheduled Tribe & Schedule Caste Development, minorities backward welfare department at the state secretariat.
However, Krishna has been on leave ever since his transfer from Malkangiri. Krishna, popular among the tribals, could have been an appropriate officer to function as Director of Tribal Welfare, a senior official here said.
