Berhampur: In a bid to ensure proper and effective enforcement of laws and crackdown on law-violators, Ganjam district administration has set up a cell.

The cell under the chairmanship of the additional district magistrate (revenue) would coordinate with different departments and monitor the enforcement effectively. Police have agreed to extend the cooperation to the departments to conduct raids, official sources said on Thursday.

"It will be a coordinated effort by the different departments to ensure effective enforcement to crackdown on offenders," district collector Krishan Kumar said.

The collector would review enforcement in different departments every fortnight. The administration would take up the issue with the appropriate forum of the government to take action against the offenders, sources said.

"We have asked almost all departments to conduct raids on regular basis to crackdown the unscrupulous persons or the law-breakers. The cell will extend help to the departments to conduct the raids to coordinate with the magistrate and the police," said a senior officer.

The people can also lodge their complaints before the cell telephonically or in writing.

"Corruption is likely to be reduced considerably. Unscrupulous persons will be afraid of violating the laws, when the various departments conduct raids in effectively in regular basis", he said.

Several social activists welcomed the decision of the district administration for formation of the enforcement of the cell. "We will consider installation of a toll free telephone and strengthening the cell in future," an officer said.
