The Chief Election Commissioner of India, Gyanesh Kumar, expressed immense happiness after visiting the heritage crafts village of Raghurajpur in Odisha’s Puri district. On his arrival, he was accorded a warm reception by villagers and district administration officials, who welcomed him with flower bouquets and escorted him through the village.
During his visit, the Chief Election Commissioner went door to door, closely observing the village’s renowned art forms, including Pattachitra paintings, palm-leaf engravings, cow-dung craft, paper masks and other traditional handicrafts. He carefully examined the intricate detailing in Pattachitra artworks depicting themes of Odisha’s art, culture and tradition, along with scenes from the Ramayana, Mahabharata and Krishna Leela.
The Chief Election Commissioner and his wife interacted with the artisans, seeking insights into the techniques, themes and cultural significance of the artworks, showing keen interest and appreciation for their craftsmanship.

Goti Pua Dance Captivates Audience
Adding to the cultural experience, young artists performed Odisha’s ancient folk dance form, Goti Pua, before the Chief Election Commissioner. The performance left both him and his wife visibly impressed, as they applauded enthusiastically and encouraged the young dancers.
Mementoes and Ongoing Odisha Visit
Following the visit, the district administration presented the Chief Election Commissioner with a large painting of Lord Jagannath, while villagers gifted him several handcrafted artefacts.
Today marks the second day of his Odisha tour. On the previous day, he visited the Puri Srimandir to seek blessings of Lord Jagannath and later toured the Konark Sun Temple.
