CBSE Class 10, 12 Exam Fee Hike: Odisha CM urges HRD Minister to rollback decision

Bhubaneswar:  Amidst the ongoing resentment over the move of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to increase the fees of Class 10 and 12 board examinations for SC and ST students, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik today sought intervention of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).

In a letter to Union HRD Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, CM Naveen wrote, “The CBSE has recently caused a sharp hike in the examination fees of Class X and Class XII students, causing resentment among parents and other stake holders. The abnormal rise, specifically in the fees in respect of SC and ST students by 24 times has come as a shock.”

Odisha government has opened more than 200 English Medium Model Schools which are affiliated to CBSE in rural areas for the benefit of economically and socially under-privileged sections of the society.

“Therefore, I request to prevail upon CBSE to reconsider their decision in the interest of people,” wrote Patnaik in his letter.

The CBSE on Sunday announced hike in exam fee from Rs 50 to Rs 1,200 and from Rs 750 to Rs 1500 for SC and ST and General students respectively.

The parents’ association in Odisha has strongly condemned the move of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to increase the fees of Class 10 and 12 board examinations for SC and ST students.
