Bhubaneswar: Crime Branch of Orissa police on Monday released a sketch of one of the suspected assilants who allegedly killed Jagabandhu Majhi, a ruling BJD MLA from Nawrangpur district last month.

"On the basis of examination of the eye witnesses, a sketch resembling one of the assailants was prepared and released for public view," a senior Crime Branch official said.Stating that the public had been requested to share information about the person and his whereabouts, he said the investigation was being conducted taking different angles into consideration.

The 39-year-old tribal leader, who represented Umerkote assembly constituency, was at Bola village in Naxal-hit Raighar area to distribute land pattas to tribals when the incident occurred on September 24.

Though police had been suspecting it to be a handiwork of Maoists, it was yet to be confirmed, an officer engaged in the investigation said.Three unidentified men on motor-cycle had fired at Majhi, DIG (South-West range), Soumendra Priyadarshi, who rushed to the area after the incident, said.

While Majhi and his PSO, Pinku Patro died, one of the MLA`s supporters Ramnath Ganda was injured.Majhi, a first time MLA, had been confined to a wheelchair after he was attacked by unknown people in 2004.

Condemning the killing as "brutal and savage," Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had immediately asked the crime branch to probe the sensational murder case.
