The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has initiated an inquiry at the NALCO office in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday following allegations of job fraud.
According to sources, several complaints were filed with the central probe agency alleging that several youths had been duped with false promises of employment at the public sector company.
Acting on the complaints, a two-member CBI team visited the NALCO office to verify whether any official recruitment notification was issued or not, sources added.
The probe aims to ascertain the authenticity of the alleged job offers and identify those involved in the fraudulent activity. Officials confirmed that the CBI team collected relevant documents and records during their inspection.
During the investigation, it was learnt that there is currently no recruitment drive going on at the PSU. However, some fraudsters duped job aspirants, promising jobs at the NALCO office.
It is worthwhile to mention here that the Commissionerate Police had recently arrested a middleman for duping a youth to the tune of Rs 16 lakh, promising him a job at NALCO. The middleman had provided fake identity cards, appointment letters and other important documents to the job aspirants.
Earlier, NALCO had also issued an advisory advising job seekers not to fall into the traps of fraudsters.
No comments could be obtained from NALCO or CBI officials.
