Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: Former CBI director Uma Shankar Mishra who has recently invited fresh scrutiny from all walks of political fraternity for his explosive admission about Central government’s pressure on CBI in most high profile cases, in a startling remark said that Odisha government must hand over the alleged mining scam in the state to the premier investigation agency.

“CBI is capable of doing an independent inquiry into the mining scams in Odisha. The state investigative agencies, I believe, can’t handle these deep-rooted cases,” said Mishra.

The former CBI top brass also said the investigative agency comes under pressure from political bigwigs when it takes up high profiles cases. Asserting his earlier remark Mishra said investigation into these cases were not done properly due to the mounting exertion of pressure from government.

Mishra rued the central investigative agency was working as a government department adding, “When there is full control of government over CBI, political pressure from bigwigs is natural.”

Divulging how the political pressure works on the agency the Mishra said, “Ministers who don't have courage to direct CBI, route their request through PMO or MoS of the concerned departments.”
