In a significant development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted a raid at Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) in Sundargarh district on Friday, in connection with allegations of illegal coal mining in the area.

According to sources, a three-member team of CBI from New Delhi arrived in the area and has begun a detailed investigation into the matter. The authorities checked some important documents, carried out measurement activities, and questioned some officials as part of the raid.

The probe is focused on complaints of illegal coal extraction allegedly being carried out in forest areas adjacent to the MCL operations.

It is alleged that unauthorised coal mining activities were taking place in the nearby forest region, prompting complaints and leading to the involvement of the central investigative agency.
