Bhubaneswar: Crime branch will investigate the murder of Hindol block chairman and BJD leader Nabaghana Sahoo who was killed in a road accident that was later claimed to be a planned murder.

However, Dhenkanal SP has assured to render all possible assistance to the Crime branch in their course of investigation.

Meanwhile, one accused has been nabbed by the police while the chief accused Jitu Sahu is still on the run. The police department has also announced a cash reward of Rs 10,000 for information on Jitu.

"Crime branch department today took over the Hindol block chairman murder case. We have assured them of providing all kinds of assistance during their investigation. The cash reward for providing information on Jitendra Sahoo alias Jitu Sahoo still remains effective," Dhenkanal SP Satish Gajbhiye said.

Earlier on May 14, Nabaghana Sahu was run over by a car while he was returning from his cashew field one and half kilometer away from his village Ganjara. The death of the chairman, that was counted to be a case of accident, was later argued by the villagers to be a result of pre-planned murder.

The villagers had then accused one Jitu Sahoo for allegedly murdering the chairman.

But the issue took a political turn when Congress and BJP accused cabinet minister Anjali Behera of having connection in Sahoo’s murder and demanded a CBI probe into the case.
