Cattle-laden truck seized; 50 cows dead, 50 more rescued
Cuttack/Khurda: Fifty cows were found dead and 50 others were rescued from a truck by police near Batamangala over bridge in Khurda town on Thursday night.
As per reports, the cattle with legs tied and stashed inside the vehicle were being illegally transported. The truck bore a registration number of Bhubaneswar RTO, reports said.
The rescued cows, who were brought in a critical condition in the truck, were taken to the Govardhan Gosala near Mangalabag in Cuttack where a team of vets are examining them, informed sources.
The incident sparked minor tension in the area as people demanded immediate action against the accused.
Earlier too, cattle being illegally transported to Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal have been seized by police, said sources.
Meanwhile police have launched an investigation into the case.
