Cattle-laden pickup van seized in Balasore

Balasore: Palpable tension gripped Silang area of Balasore today as locals seized a cattle-laden pickup van and detained three youths in connection with the case.

According to sources, some local residents spotted a vehicle carrying cattle near Tailak chhak in the district. Suspecting that the cows were being transported for slaughter, hundreds of locals crowded the area and stopped the vehicle.

As tension prevailed in the area, a team of police rushed to the spot and controlled the crowd. Later, cops detained the three youths, rescued the cattle and seized the vehicle.

It may be noted that many cow smuggling incidents have been witnessed in the State recently.

On December 19, four cows were found dead while 54 others were rescued from a truck by police on National Highway-16 in Khurda district.
