Cuttack: A case was filed in Orissa High Court against Congress’ Barabati-Cuttack MLA, Mohammed Moquim alleging that he furnished a false affidavit during the recently-concluded Assembly election.

BJD leader Debashish Samantaray, who lost to Moquim, has filed the case alleging that the Congress lawmaker, in his affidavit, did not mention facts about his criminal activities and assets and such suppression of facts violates Section 33 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

Debashish also requested the court to declare the election to Barabati-Cuttack Assembly seat null and void.

“I filed a case against Mohammed Moquim as the affidavit which he had filed during the election was not done as per the Election Commission’s prescribed format. Besides, several vital facts have been omitted and there is no clarity in the affidavit,” said Samantaray while speaking to media persons.

No comments could be obtained from Moquim.
