Carcass of 52-feet whale washes ashore in Kendrapara

Kendrapara: The carcass of a whale measuring around 52-feet long was found on the beach near Habalikhati area in Gahirmatha Marine Santury of the district on Wednesday.

Some officials of the forest department discovered the carcass of the sea mammal on the beach yesterday.

Stale smell was emanating from the whale, while its head and most of parts of the water animal was found in decomposed state. It is being suspected the whale died some 20-25 days ago, sources said.

Meanwhile, a veterinary team rushed to the spot after getting information to conduct post-mortem of the giant marine mammal. The exact reason behind the death of the animal is yet to be established.
