Kendrapara: Carcass of nearly a 30-ft-long whale was found near Ahirajpur under Bhitarkanika National Park of Kendrapara district today. It is suspected that the whale might have washed up on Baitarini river mouth into the mangroves in Abhirajpur.

The news of discovery of a whale carcass spread like wildfire and people from several nearby villages rushed to the spot to get a glimpse. Though the exact reason behind the death of the whale is still unclear, locals suspect that the whale might have died after being hit by fishing trawlers.

Senior officials are yet to reach the spot and further details are awaited.

Earlier on November 1, 2018, a carcass of a whale measuring around 52-feet was found on the beach near Habalikhati area in Gahirmatha Marine Santury of the district.
