Deogarh: The carcass of a three-year-old elephant was recovered by the Forest department officials from Baradanali village under Riamal range of Deogarh forest division today.

As per reports, one Fakir Nayak of Baradanali village spotted the elephant calf lying dead in his backyard near the cowshed and informed the Forest department.

Subsequently, the forester and officials of Riamal forest range rushed to the spot and seized the carcass of the animal.

Though the exact cause of death of the elephant calf is yet to be established, forest officials are suspecting that the jumbo might have died after being attacked by some other wild elephant. However, there are no cut marks or injuries on the body of the jumbo, informed sources.

Forest officials have initiated an investigation into the matter.
