Sambalpur: It seems that the Transport Department in Sambalpur has committed a faux pas after penalising a car owner for not wearing helmet.

As per reports, Bisakha Mahakul of Jyotipada area recently received a SMS regarding the issuance of a challan for violating traffic rules. After verifying, Bisakha found that a penalty of Rs 1,000 was imposed for not wearing helmet and the said fine was against the registration number of her vehicle which happens to be a car.

Though the name of the violator mentioned in the SMS is different, it has the registration number of my car, Bisakha said.

“I had not taken my car out for last 15 days, but how can a car driver be penalised for not wearing helmet? The authorities should check twice before imposing fine and sending challans,” said Bisakha.

Bisakha further stated that she has already approached the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) and the district Collector demanding necessary action in connection with the matter.

No comments could be obtained from the concerned authorities.
