Candidate dies during constable test

Koraput: The death of a candidate during the constable recruitment test at the third battalion of the Odisha Special Armed Police(OSAP) here has raised many an eyebrow. The unfortunate candidate, Nila Kumar Ray who hailed from village Mandasahi near Jagatpur town, died just ahead of the 5-kilometre long cross country race.

More tha eight thousand candidates had applied for recruitment of 387 constables in the 3rd batallion of the OSAP. The cross country race was the final step of the physical test. Nila had cleared all the tests before. But most unfortunately just before the start for the race was down on the ground and the doctors at the recruitment ground gave him initial treatment. The doctors then referred him to the district headquarter hospital. However, Nila died on his way to the hospital. His body has been handed over to the family members along with an ex-gratia of Rs. 20,000.
