Sundergarh: Tension resurfaced in Sundergarh on Tuesday as two groups reportedly hurled stones at each other near Regent Market under Sundergarh Town Police Station during a protest rally on Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). A heated exchange of words reportedly ensued between two persons and later it turned into a group clash.

One person was injured while two vehicles were vandalised during the clash. Police reportedly resorted to ‘lathi’ charge to maintain law and order situation.

Later, a platoon of Odisha Swift Action Force (OSAF) and three platoons of police were deployed at the spot to avoid any untoward situation.

“A heated conversation ensued between a grocery shop owner and a customer and it further escalated into a group clash,” said Sundergarh SP, Soumya Mishra adding that the incident that took place yesterday is not related to today’s incident.

Earlier yesterday, tension erupted in Sundergarh during an anti-CAA rally taken out by the district unit of Congress after a scuffle broke out between anti and pro-CAA activists at DRDA chhak.
