BYJD leader alleges irregularities in MGNREGA implementation

Nayagarh: The Biju Yuva Janata Dal’s (BYJD) secretary of Nayagarh district, Abhijit Patnaik has raised allegations of irregularities in the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA) in Arakhapalli village under Bhapur block of the district. The allegations were raised by Patnaik in a press conference today.

According to Patnaik, funds under the scheme are being misappropriated in the name of a fake person. Under the scheme, nearly Rs 10 lakh was spent on the construction of a pond and a road in the village. However, gross irregularities have been conducted during the construction work in the village, Patnaik alleged.

“The officials are exploiting the people of the village. The Gaon SATHI, Gram Rojar Sevak (GRS), Bhapur block Junior Engineer, administrative officials and politicians are involved in the irregularities,” Patnaik said.

On the other hand, the MGNREGA project director, Anam Charan Patra said that a team has been sent to the village for investigation. Appropriate action will be taken against the errant persons after receiving the report, he added.

“Based on the allegations, a formal directive for investigation has been issued. We have not received the investigation report yet. Appropriate action will be taken after the report is received,” Patra said.
