Bhubaneswar: Odisha government today reduced the bus fare by 2 paise per km in all the categories.

Talking to media, Transport minister Ramesh Majhi said following a fall in diesel price, the Technical Advisory Committee of the department has decided for an across-the-board reduction of bus fares.

Henceforth, the passengers, who used to pay 62 paise/km, will now have to pay 60 paise in ordinary buses and 63 instead of 65 in Express buses. Similarly, the fare in deluxe and deluxe A/C buses will be 83 paise and Rs 1.2 respectively instead of 85 paise and Rs 1.04 per km, Majhi added.

Notably, the committee held a meeting last week presided over by the Transport commissioner and discussed about fare reduction. However, the amount could not be decided.

The state government had earlier reduced the bus fare by two paise in two phases following a fall in the diesel prices by Rs 9.17 in phases in the last two months.
