Puri: The indefinite strike by the employees of tourist buses in demand of pay hike has brought the tourism industry to a grinding halt in the temple town in the peak of the tourist season.

The employees of the tourist buses under the aeigis of the Nilgiri Motor Workers` Association have shutdown work since Sunday midnight to press their five point charter of demands including salary hikes. The employees complained that though the bus owners paid no heed to the notices served by the association earlier to consider the demands.

The two meetings on December 24 and December 30 held with the officials of the labour department too failed to resolve the disputes. The district labour officer Loknath Patra however has assured that steps would be taken to resolve the problem very soon.
