Burnt Lemon Therapy For Kidney Ailments? Odisha Woman Claims So
Malkangiri: In the age of rapid advancements in technology and medical science, it may sound inexplicable – but not for the hundreds of people with kidney ailments who are turning to the ‘burnt lemon’ therapy provided by a woman in MV 104 village in tribal-dominated Malkangiri district of Odisha.
Neither there is scientific data to prove the efficacy of such therapy nor any research to back it up, but people in large numbers from across the State are thronging the doorsteps of Charulata, who claims to cure complex kidney ailments with her therapy.
Charulata claims that her father, who was suffering from renal disease, got cured with this therapy and is spending a healthy life for the last eight years. When asked about the treatment, Charulata informed that she had visions in her dream where a Goddess asked her to give her father the therapy and it proved successful.
“With blessings of Goddess Kali, my father got cured and I started providing treatment to others free of cost,” said Charulata.
According to reports, Charulata mixes jaggery and prepares a paste using the pulp of burnt lemon. After placing the paste in small bowls before her Goddess, Charulata gives the medicine to the patients who queue up before her house every Tuesday and Saturday. “I have strong belief in the therapy as my condition has improved after taking such medicine,” said a patient.
A person from Sambalpur stated that he came to know about such therapy from a person who got cured.
Despite Charulata’s claims, doctors have completely rubbished the efficacy of such type of treatment. “There is no element in lemon that can cure kidney ailments. Besides, there is a risk in case of people with acute renal disease,” said Dr. SK Palit.
