Sambalpur: The General Nurse Midwife (GNM) students of VSS Medical College Hospital, School of Nursing in Burla on Monday staged a demonstration protesting the alleged dictatorial attitude of the principal of the college.

The students have also leveled serious accusations against the principal of mentally harrassing them. Apart from threatening them to suspend them from the college, the principal has many times deducted their stipend without citing any particular reason, the students alleged.

“She harasses us mentally and does not pay heed to any of our problems. Whenever we approach her regarding any issue, she either asks us to come through a proper channel or takes decision as per her whims and fancies. The injustice meted out by her has forced us to resort to strike,” said an agitating student, Pujarani Pradhan.

The students informed that although a discussion was held between the concerned VIMSAR authorities and the principal, the issues could not be resolved which compelled them to launch agitation.

On the other hand, the principal of the college refuted the charges claiming that the students are protesting as she took disciplinary steps against them to avoid malpractices during examinations.
