In a major crackdown on illegal constructions, the administration demolished the house of a suspected Bangladeshi national in Beherampur Basti under Sadar Police Station, Jagatsinghpur. The demolition, carried out using a bulldozer, was carried out under the supervision of the Magistrate and Sub-Collector, with a total of 10 houses razed during the operation.
The house, standing for the last four years, was reportedly constructed illegally by the main accused, Sikandar Alam alias Siku. He had allegedly brought Bangladeshi migrants and employed them in various works. Reportedly, the illegal occupation came to light after administration officials rescued some children who were not Indian residents a few days ago.
The police and administration officials were reportedly attacked yesterday when they visited the site to investigate the illegal construction, leaving the Additional SP injured. Following this, a gun, along with several sharp weapons, was seized during a raid.
The district administration subsequently ordered the demolition and announced strict action against those illegally consuming electricity.
District Tehsildar confirmed that the demolition drive would continue across the district. Four individuals have reportedly been detained and are being interrogated, while efforts are on to apprehend absconding suspects.
Show-cause notices have been issued to field staff, and police and revenue departments have been directed to monitor such cases closely. Officials emphasised zero tolerance for illegal constructions in the district.
