In a major drug bust, enforcement teams from Jaleswar and Bhograi seized brown sugar worth Rs 16.5 lakh and arrested a local youth in Bhograi, Balasore district on Friday.
Vijay Kumar Sahu of Sanateghari village in Bhograi block was caught red-handed while allegedly trying to sell the narcotic. Authorities recovered 165 grams of brown sugar, a motorcycle, and cash of Rs 1,070 from him.
Youth Caught in Film-Style Trap
According to the enforcement teams, information about the youth’s involvement in the brown sugar trade was received late last night around midnight. Acting on the tip-off, the teams laid a carefully planned trap, intercepting him as he arrived on his motorcycle to make the deal. Officials said the operation was carried out ‘film-style’, ensuring the suspect was apprehended without any incident.
Investigation Underway
Preliminary investigations suggest that the brown sugar was brought from the neighbouring state of West Bengal. The authorities are examining all angles, including the source of the narcotics and whether the accused has any prior links to similar criminal activities. The enforcement teams are continuing their probe to trace the supply chain and apprehend any accomplices involved in the illegal trade.
