Puri: The Brahmagiri block office turned into a battlefield on Wednesday after a violent clash erupted between BJP and BJD- supported Sarpanches and Samiti members on the premises.

As per sources, two persons - one Samiti Sabhya and the other, husband of another Samiti Sabhya, sustained critical injuries in the incident.

Though massive police forces were deployed in the area, the administration was forced to clamp Section 144 to control the situation.

The elected representatives had reportedly staged a dharna at the block office on allegations that the local MLA is misutilising the ‘Ama Gaon Ama Vikash’ Yojana and has made it ‘BJD Vote Vikash’ Yojana by acting on his own whims and fancies for vested interests.

As per sources, after the agitation continued for three days, the Block development Officer finally called for a meeting to discuss the issues when suddenly the BJD representatives and activities reportedly barged into the office and started attacking people present there. They have allegedly ransacked the premises too.

Sushil Kumar Mishra, SDPO Puri Sadar said, “The situation went out of everyone’s hands because of which the administration clamped Section 144 in the area. Necessary action will be taken as per law if any party files a complaint.”
