The teacher, identified as Suramani Mallik of Jharakhamana Primary School, had reportedly been arriving at school after consuming alcohol on a daily basis. According to complaints, instead of teaching students, he spent much of his time on his mobile phone. He was also accused of remaining absent from school without informing authorities and functioning according to his own convenience.

Departmental Inquiry Initiated

Acting on the complaints, the Harabhanga Block Education Officer took strict action by withholding the teacher’s one-day salary and launching a departmental inquiry. A show-cause notice has been issued, and the BEO has directed him to submit his response within 30 days, sources said.

Reports further indicate that the Headmaster was aware of the teacher’s alleged drunken behaviour during school hours and his failure to conduct classes properly. This has raised questions over why no action was initiated earlier at the school level.
