Booth Rigging, ‘Cash For Votes’ in Kendrapara Mock Democracy

Kendrapara: Soon after voting began for the fourth phase elections in Odisha, an incident of booth rigging was unleashed at a polling station in Aul assembly segment under Kendrapara LS constituency. A video of a man allegedly influencing voters and casting multiple votes at booth no. 310 in Aliha Singiri Bazar UP School at Aul surfaced on social media platforms after polling began today.

In another incident reported from Rajnagar Assembly constituency of Kendrapara, a video which has now gone viral on social media allegedly provides visual evidence of Pattamundai block chairperson’s husband distributing cash among voters of Gunupur village under Gangaram panchayat late on Sunday night.
Tension prevailed in the village after locals detained the accused protesting the alleged distribution of cash to buy votes.

Meanwhile, Odisha DGP RP Sharma has directed Kendrapara SP to probe into the allegations of booth rigging and distribution of cash in Pattamundai and take appropriate action.

Raising concerns over ‘cash for vote’ and booth rigging during the polls, BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate from the parliamentary constituency Baijayant Panda had earlier shot a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer, requesting paramilitary forces at every booth in Kendrapara. Based on information received, his team had also written to the district authorities with details of sensitive booths.

Panda, after visiting polling booth no.38 in the constituency, said, “Today, we registered 14-15 complaints with poll authorities over disturbance and attempts of booth rigging at different polling booths. We want free and fair polls”
