The Puri police on Wednesday detained a person in connection with a social media threat to blow up the Puri Srimandir, triggering alarm and heightened vigilance across the temple town. The Puri district police acted swiftly after a threatening post went viral, prompting immediate action to trace its origin and ensure public safety.

Bomb Threat On Facebook

According to police sources, the threatening content was posted on social media from an account named ‘Julie Rani Panda’. The post reportedly contained highly objectionable remarks, claiming that a bomb would soon be detonated at the Puri Jagannath Temple. It also mentioned plans to open fire at the Puri Grand Centre, causing widespread concern among residents and devotees.

The post further alleged that Member of Parliament Subhashish Khuntia would be shot, adding to the gravity of the situation. Following the circulation of the post, a formal complaint was lodged with the police, urging immediate intervention. Taking the matter seriously, the Puri district police launched a detailed investigation to identify the individual behind the threatening message.

Suspect Detained

Based on preliminary findings, the police have detained the person responsible for uploading and circulating the post. The individual is currently being questioned to ascertain the motive behind issuing the threats and whether any larger conspiracy is involved. Meanwhile, security arrangements in and around the Srimandir were reviewed and strengthened as a precautionary measure.

“Our special team studied the background of the ID, and has been closely watching a few suspects. We have been questioning them to dig out more information about the incident. We are also trying to get a lead through the Facebook URL and find the details about the person behind the post. All I can tell is that all types of security arrangements have been made.  The special team is ready, so there is no need to fear,” informed Puri SP Prateek Singh.
