Bhubaneswar: In a major development, the Orissa High Court Chief Justice A K Goel on Thursday invited members of Bolangir Bar Association to meet him on November 4 and discuss the issue over setting up of HC bench in Bolangir.

"We had requested him (the Chief Justice) to discuss the issue with us following which he asked us to meet him on November 4. We will place our demand before him," said Binayak Mishra, president, Bolangir Bar Association.

On the other hand, members of the bar association decided to continue with their boycott of the civic polls.

Earlier, last month, a team of 18 members from Bolangir Bar Association had met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and requested to set up a bench in their town.

The bar association members had also pleaded for the bench in their area while deposing before the Justice CR Pal Commission. Lawyers of the district had said that the areas covered under council were backward and populated by people belonging to scheduled tribe, sources said.

In a related development, a 30-member delegation of Orissa High Court lawyers on Tuesday met the Chief Justice and apprised him of their grievances in connection with the state government’s attempt to set up permanent benches of the HC in other parts of the state.

It may be noted that the Chief Minister wrote a letter to the Union Law Minister recommending setting up permanent benches of the HC in south and west Odisha.
