Puri: Following numerous allegations of misappropriation of funds meant for Fani-affected victims in the district, Puri Collector Balwant Singh has clarified that ineligible beneficiaries who have received financial assistance from the authorities will refund the money.

Informing that the process has already been initiated, Singh said "Steps will be taken to collect money from those who have already withdrawn from their beneficiary accounts while banks would be requested to enact stop payment in case the deposited money has not been processed or withdrawn by the recipient."

The Collector further said, "It is not possible to act on complaints of how many houses have been damaged in cyclone Fani as almost six months have passed by. However, if someone lodges any complaint regarding bogus beneficiaries or one family receiving multiple house-damage assistance, necessary measures would be taken."

Singh has also assured that stringent action will be taken against all those officials involved in this illegal activity.

"We have received around 1.20 lakh applications for the construction of houses. Those staying in kachcha house will get a pucca house under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana," added Singh.
