Villagers lock up school alleging teacher absenteeism

Balasore: Residents of the Nilgiri block under Bhanuriabad panchayat in Balasore today locked up a primary school alleging teacher shortage and mismanagement.

The villagers alleged that headmaster and teachers of the Bayar Sahi primary school have been bunking classes on a regular basis .

“We were forced to lock the school because our children are not being provided proper education. This is a tribal area and we need good teachers to teach our children,” said a villager Nilagiri Gourang.

“Taking advantage of the school’s remote location, the teachers are remaining absent at their own sweet will. They are playing with the future of our wards,” rued another local.

However, the headmaster refuted the allegation.

” I had gone out to make photo copies of important documents required for an upcoming audit and came to know that villagers have locked up the school,” said headmaster Purnachandra. “I am not involved in any wrongdoings,” he added.
